the wetroom concept

click here to find out how wetrooms work

A Dining room is where you dine, a Living room is where you live, a Bedroom is where you will find a bed and a Wetroom is where you will get WET. It is technically a more modern interpretation of a bathroom – after all you will not always now find a bath in those rooms.

Wetrooms are commonplace throughout mainland Europe and catching on fast in the UK. Their simplicity of being a totally sealed area in which water can run without threatening to damage adjacent or downstairs rooms has fired the imagination of designers and public alike.

The process of applying the watertight membrane is often called “tanking” – think of the process as creating a totally sealed or tank shaped room.

There is no requirement for a cumbersome step up shower tray nor often even a shower screen! In fact with a blank canvas, the shower could even be sited in the middle of the room. With a Raindance System there is no need for separate shower tray formers (promoted as assisting with the creation of the drainage slope) which by their nature limit where the drain outlet must be sited,

Most agree that the concept is brilliant – the reality of construction is, however, not to be taken lightly. Firstly the existing bathroom must be totally cleared – this will then enable the watertight membrane to be applied across the entire floor area and securely onto a special style of floor drain. The wall areas are treated with the same membrane either in specific areas (if a very large room) or totally covered in rooms of 4m² floor area or less.

It is assumed that a wetroom will normally contain shower, basin and w.c. – there is, however, no problem to also include a bath if required (ensuring that no fixings penetrate the tanking membrane).

Creating a wetroom is certainly NOT a D.I.Y project nor to be entrusted to anyone with an “I’ll give it a try” mentality. Raindance brings you a wealth of installation experience coupled to in-depth knowledge of drainage solutions, concealed shower valve controls, drainage slope creation, floor re-inforcement and a whole host of other aspects essential for a successful wetroom installation.

Our service level for tanking installations is anywhere in the UK within 7-10 days (including Northern Ireland and the Channel islands) and for mainland Europe within 14-21 days.
