The concept of a wetroom originated in Scandinavia where shower
trays are not commonly used. Instead they install a waterproof
membrane beneath the floor and wall tiles - effectively sealing
the whole room.
Even if the silicone, grout, adhesive or tile surface breaks
down, water cannot pass through the underlying impervious membrane.
Water on the floor surface runs to specialist stainless steel
floor drains which again are carefully sealed into the membrane
system.
When using power showers it is commonplace to fit a glass screen
or enclosure to deflect water back, preventing other areas of
the room from getting splashed. With a wetroom design, this procedure
is not always necessary.
Even if your new bathroom is to have a shower tray and/or bath
it is worth considering this water-proofing technique. A Raindance
Tanking System will give you TOTAL reassurance
that water will not penetrate to adjoining rooms or floors
